It is Francesca D'Auria, a final year specialist in cardiac surgery, who was awarded the prize at the 96th annual meeting in Baltimore, in the United States.

The only woman and only Italian selected by the International Scientific Commission, the scholar UCBM was admitted to Resident Poster Competition together with surgeons from all over the world. Already PhD in Robotic Surgery, Francesca D'Auria was awarded by the AATS for the innovative research protocol 'Speakle Tracking Imaging to Assess the Improvement of Myocardial Activity After Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting'.

Francesca D'Auria has received recognition from the American Association for Thoracic Surgery

July 27, 2016 - Reaches theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma recognition from the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), a historic scientific society for cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery.

His is a work that starts from diagnostics and finds an application in cardiac surgery patients. The 'speake tracking imaging' is in fact a non-invasive echocardiographic technique, like a simple echocardiogram, but which allows you to measure the functioning of the heart in a more thorough way. This method could prevent patients who have undergone surgery from having to undergo further "annoyance" for check-ups after the operation.

The study was carried out on a sample of 80 people operated on for the implantation of at least three bypasses. The results obtained show the possibility of replacing the speech tracking imaging to invasive tests such as coronary angiography and myocardial scintigraphy, without sacrificing the accuracy of details for heart monitoring. A conclusion which, as Francesca herself states, should be confirmed by a multi-centre study. And so it could be the next step on the path of finding her.
