Nevio Luigi Tagliamonte

Biography

He obtained his Bachelor's, Master's and PhD degrees in Biomedical Engineering from theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma (UCBM) in 2006, 2008 and 2012 respectively. He was a visiting PhD student at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL, Biorobotics Laboratory) in 2011. He is currently a type A TD researcher in the SSD ING-IND/34 (Industrial Bioengineering ) and is a member of the Research Unit of Advanced Robotics and Human-Centered Technologies (CREO Lab). He collaborates as a researcher at the Robotic Neurorehabilitation Laboratory of the Santa Lucia Foundation in Rome.

His research activity takes place in the field of biomedical robotics, with particular attention to wearable devices for assistance/rehabilitation (exoskeletons and prostheses) and learning (exoskeletons), surgical devices (smart catheters) and mobile platforms for support in hospital setting.

He is recently involved in research projects on the following topics: i) Mechanical design of exoskeletons and upper limb prostheses based on additive manufacturing and on the principles of soft robotics. ii) Clinical evaluation of lower limb exoskeletons based on the analysis of the biomechanics of movement, physiological/psychophysiological parameters and user-centered indicators of the users' subjective experience. iii) Development of devices for neurorehabilitation, including metrics based on the biomechanics of movement. iv) Evaluation of upper limb exoskeletons for robot-mediated human-human physical communication in learning tasks (writing and playing musical instruments). v) Development of steerable catheters based on soft robotics for interventional cardiology. vi) Clinical translation of mobile robotic technologies (enriched by AI and IoT) in the hospital environment for the assistance of healthcare workers and for the improvement of hospitalized patient care.
