PRO-LIVER Collaborative Study: A National Registry of Patients with Liver Cirrhosis to Estimate the Prevalence of Portal Vein Thrombosis

Project objectives

Objective I: To estimate the prevalence of PVT assessed by power Doppler US in a cohort of patients with liver cirrhosis of any etiology and severity. Objective II: To evaluate the following outcomes annually:

  • Appearance of thrombotic complications (deep vein and portal thrombosis)

  • Appearance of digestive or other bleeding complications

  • Global mortality

  • Hospital admissions for decompensated cirrhosis

  • Appearance of other cirrhosis-related complications (episodes of refractory ascites, episodes of hepatic encephalopathy, appearance or progression of esophageal varices, appearance of ascites or episodes of refractory ascites, appearance of jaundice, appearance of hepatocellular carcinoma, infections, and in particular appearance of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, onset of hepatorenal syndrome, onset of hepato-pulmonary syndrome)
