Project objectives
The DAHMS (Distributed Architecture Home Modular Multifunctional Systems) project develops modular and multifunctional systems for integrated home automation and remote healthcare, based on optimal distribution of ICT resources between local resources and remote servers and on significant modularity and commonality among integrated functions. The primary operational objectives of DAHMS are:
-
improve the quality of life and level of self-sufficiency of chronically ill and/or at-risk patients, and in particular of the elderly and disabled, through the integration of home automation features with healthcare and social assistance features specific to the target population
-
achieve a significant reduction in production, installation and maintenance costs through a distributed architecture, modularity and functional commonality and, consequently, price reductions for institutional users and patients
-
achieve adequate economic sustainability for institutional users and their carers by offsetting their costs through savings.
The primary functionalities that will be implemented through DAHMS are:
-
health monitoring (correct nutrition, vital signs, correct use of medications, correct mobility and execution of physical/rehabilitative exercises)
-
social follow-up (communications for corrective and educational actions on lifestyles and for the stimulation of intellectual interests in order to avoid dangerous states of abandonment and relaxation)
-
support for self-sufficiency (for mobility and finding objects, for safety in the home and to avoid diseconomies and food and energy waste).
The following will be developed in more detail:
-
Continuous and/or on-demand health monitoring through non-invasive sensors and localization systems, IP voice/video communication and support for visual/vocal interactivity, all in seamless mode, both at home and on the move
-
optimal management/tracking/use of food products and education/monitoring for proper nutrition
-
rehabilitation support
-
mobility and object location aid
-
integrated local and remote control of electrical (especially household appliances) and thermal utilities
-
support for local and remote security and alarm systems.
