Correlation between Lysosomal acid lipase (LAL) deficiency and the development/Progression of non alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH)

Possible relationship between lysosomal acid lipase (LAL) deficiency and the development/progression of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Project objectives

Evaluate LAL enzymatic activity in patients with varying degrees of fatty liver disease to study the relationship between LAL deficiency and the development of NASH. Specifically, LAL enzymatic activity will be correlated with the presence of the polymorphism in exon 8 of the LIPA gene and with LAL molecular expression in the liver.

The results obtained from both enzymatic and molecular analysis will finally be correlated with the various factors of liver function and glycolipid structure and with the evolution of NAFLD.
