The first level University Master's Degree in "Magnetic Resonance Techniques in Clinical and Research Fields" is a post-basic training course that aims to train healthcare professionals capable of carrying out morphological and functional MRI diagnostic procedures in the healthcare and clinical research. The Master develops attitudes, knowledge and advanced skills in the management and optimization of basic and advanced MRI protocols to ensure continuous quality improvement with reference to the structural, technological and human resources of the Diagnostic Imaging operating units to which they belong.
Recipients and access requirements
Admission to the Master requires a first-level degree in the health area in Diagnostic Imaging Techniques and Radiotherapy.
Educational objectives
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
- transfer the knowledge and specialized skills acquired in the MRI rooms of clinical centers and bio-medical research institutes
- participate consciously in the risk assessment of the MRI examination
- optimize MRI investigation protocols and sequences and personalize the diagnostic exam on the patient
- recognize and correct artifacts in MRI
- process images obtained with advanced imaging techniques
- manage the diagnostic process in MRI and develop quality controls on processes
Final profile
The outgoing profile of the participants who will obtain the title is a medical radiology technician expert in the use of Magnetic Resonance equipment and in the optimization of examination protocols in clinical and research settings.
Didactic structure and thematic areas
The course is structured in 6 thematic areas which include integrated forms of theoretical activities, individual learning and field experiences with a problem-based approach.
Thematic areas:
- MRI: hardware components and quality controls (2 modules)
- MR: From image to proton (3 modules)
- protocols and diagnostic pathways in MRI (7 modules)
- functional imaging in MRI (4 modules)
- MR image quality checks (1 module)
- the diagnostic process in MRI (3 modules)
At the end of each thematic area the student will have to pass an assessment test which may consist of a short written test (multiple choice learning questionnaire). Passing these tests will allow access to the final test which consists in the elaboration and discussion of a thesis.
Internship
The Master includes an internship period at the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital, 500 hours of attendance in the MRI rooms and 250 hours of simulation activities guided by a classroom tutor.
For those who are already employed by an organization or company, the internship will coincide directly with the elaboration of the final thesis.
Any auditors will not be able to carry out training activities.
To carry out the internship it will be necessary to have medical fitness with the possibility of carrying out visits and analyzes directly at the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital (cost of the analyzes to be paid by the participant).
Scholarships covering
Discounted rates are provided for the staff of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital. In this case, the amount of each installment is €1.000 each, for a total of €2.000 instead of €2.500.
Title awarded
Participants who complete the Master and are in compliance with the administrative obligations will be awarded the title of 80st level University Master in Magnetic Resonance Techniques in Clinical and Research Fields. The acknowledgment of the training credit is linked both to regular attendance (compulsory for a total of hours of not less than 75% of the lessons and % of the internship activities), and to passing the ongoing and final tests.
Those who attend the Master as auditors will not obtain the qualification and will be issued a certificate of attendance.
