Recipients and access requirements

The course is primarily open to those who hold a degree in Medicine and Surgery with specialization in Neurology.

It is also open to those who hold a University Diploma pursuant to Law no. 341/1990, or an old system degree diploma, or degree, or specialist/master's degree (pursuant to Ministerial Decree no. 509/1999 and Ministerial Decree no. 270/2004 respectively) in:

  • Medicine and Surgery
  • Psychology
  • Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics
  • Farmacia
  • Physiotherapy
  • Neurophysiopathology technicians
  • Nursing

The access requirement must be achieved within 90 days following the start of the Course. Scholars and/or headache enthusiasts who do not possess the above qualifications will be able to participate as auditors.

Educational objectives

The objective of the Course is to provide the learner with the most up-to-date knowledge on cephalalgia pathology, from pathophysiology to therapy, integrating the theoretical exposition of all the topics covered with practical exercises on selected clinical cases, proposed largely by the learners themselves. The aim of the course is to enable the learner to immediately have operational tools to use in their daily clinical practice. With this in mind, an internship is planned that the students will have to undertake at one of the headache centers partnering the course.

Method of admission

The application for admission to the course must be submitted within the 22 January 2024 using the online procedure available at the internet address https://pica.cineca.it/unicampus/corperf-1-2024/ and provides for the inclusion of:

  • personal data
  • dichiarasubstitutive certification
  • Valid identity document
  • payment of €50 for the admission application

The selection will be made by checking the access requirements and based on the date of submission of the application, until the maximum number of participants is reached.

Didactic structure and thematic areas

The course lasts 8 months and guarantees the acquisition of 10 credits (equal to 250 hours). Its modular and part-time formula makes it compatible and contextual with professional commitments and responsibilities.

Each day of the course will be accredited with ECM.

The 10 credits are divided as follows:

  • 5 credits in teaching and study activities;
  • 2 CFU in internship activities;
  • 3 credits in the elaboration of the project work.

The course is structured in 2 thematic areas:

  1. primary headaches
  2. secondary headaches

each developed in a 3-day module that includes integrated forms of theoretical activities, individual learning and field experiences.

Internship

During the internship the learner will support the tutor(s) in clinical activities dedicated to headaches at one of the affiliated facilities with the aim of acquiring clinical-practical skills in the optimal management of patients suffering from the pathology.

In detail:

  • Support in headache clinics and in those dedicated to botulinum toxin, monoclonal antibodies, chronic migraine and with excessive use of drugs, etc.
  • Support in dedicated partner centers (for a limited number of participants) in the management of patients undergoing diagnostic procedures for CSF circulation disorders and for treatment with anesthetic blocks
  • Support in the management of patients in Day Hospital or Day Service

The internship activity will be verified by a special certificate attesting the presence and the activity carried out for the foreseen number of hours, signed by the learner and by the facility manager.

The internship will also support the development, under tutorial supervision, of the project work that will be presented during the final exam.

Height

The registration fee for the entire course is €1.500,00, to be paid in a single payment or divided into 2 instalments:

  • €750,00 upon enrollment (by 09/02/2024)
  • €750,00 by 30/04/2024

In no case will the fees be refunded.

Discounted rates

Discounted fees are available for the "Friends of the ASC"* (Association for a Headache School), for employees of the Campus Bio-Medico University Polyclinic Foundation and for auditors. The subsidized participation fee is equal to €1.000,00 and can be paid in a single payment or divided into two installments of €500,00 each, with the same deadlines as for the ordinary fee.

*These are all those who have carried out teaching activities or attended one of the residential courses of ASC, Association for a Headache School.
