The University Specialization Course in Diagnosis and Treatment of Headaches is aimed at training and updating the various professionals in the sector in Headache Medicine.

The course is established byUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma and continues the twenty-year experience of the Advanced Training Course on Headaches of ASC (Association for a Headache School), which contributes to the Course with its teachers.

The aim is to put the student in a position to immediately have operational tools to use in their daily clinical practice. In this perspective, an internship is planned that the students will have to take at one of the headache centers partner of the course.

The training program provides all the tools necessary to formulate the diagnosis, allow the appropriate choice of therapy, also on the basis of clinical data on drug efficacy/tolerability, and long-term outcome indicators.

Recipients and access requirements

The course is primarily open to those who hold a degree in Medicine and Surgery with a specialization in Neurology. It is also open to those in possession of a University Diploma pursuant to Law no. 341/1990, or a Bachelor's Degree under the old system, or Bachelor's Degree, or Specialist/Master's Degree (pursuant to Ministerial Decree No. 509/1999 and Ministerial Decree No. 270/2004 respectively) in:

- Medicine and Surgery
- Psychology
- Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics
- Pharmacy
- Physiotherapy
- Neurophysiopathology Technicians
- Nursing

Method of admission

The application for admission to the Course must be submitted by 23pm on 59 January 31 using the online procedure available on the website www.unicampus.it/master on the page dedicated to the Course and requires the inclusion of:

· personal data;
· Ofchiarareplacement certification;
· identity document;
· payment of €50 for the application for admission.

The selection will be made by checking the access requirements and based on the date of submission of the application, until the maximum number of participants is reached.

Didactic structure and thematic areas

The course lasts 8 months and guarantees the acquisition of 10 credits (equal to 250 hours). Its modular and part-time formula makes it compatible and contextual with professional commitments and responsibilities.

It is also expected that each day of the course will be credited with ECM.

The 10 credits are divided as follows:

· 5 CFU in teaching and study activities;

· 1 CFU in internship activities;

· 4 CFU in project work development.

The course is structured in 2 thematic areas:

- Primary Headaches

- Secondary Headaches

each developed in a 3-day module that includes integrated forms of theoretical activities, individual learning and field experiences.

Each day of the course will be accredited with ECM.

The 10 credits are divided as follows:

  • 5 credits in teaching and study activities;
  • 2 CFU in internship activities;
  • 3 credits in the elaboration of the project work.

The course is structured in 2 thematic areas:

  1. primary headaches
  2. secondary headaches

each developed in a 3-day module that includes integrated forms of theoretical activities, individual learning and field experiences.

Internship

During the internship, the learner will support the tutor/s in the clinical activities dedicated to headaches at one of the affiliated facilities in order to acquire the clinical-practical skills in the optimal management of patients suffering from the pathology. In detail:

- Support in outpatient clinics for headache visits and those dedicated to botulinum toxin, monoclonal antibodies, chronic migraine and migraine with excessive use of drugs, etc.

- Support in dedicated partner centers (for a limited number of participants) for the management of patients undergoing diagnostic procedures for disorders of the cerebrospinal fluid circulation and for treatment with anaesthetic blocks

- Assistance in the management of patients in Day Hospital or Day Service regime

The internship activity will be verified by a special certificate attesting the presence and the activity carried out for the foreseen number of hours, signed by the learner and by the facility manager.

The internship will also support the elaboration, under tutorial supervision, of the project works that will be discussed during the final exam.

The registration fee for the entire course is €1.500,00, to be paid in a single payment or divided into 2 instalments:

Discounted rates

Discounted rates are available for the “Friends of the ASC”* (Association for a Headache School), for employees of the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico and for UCBM Academy Ambassador. The reduced participation fee is €1.000,00 and can be paid in a single solution or divided into two installments of €500,00 each, with the same timing as the ordinary fee.

*These are all those who have carried out teaching activities or attended one of the residential courses of ASC, Association for a Headache School.

Title awarded

Participants who complete the course and are in compliance with the administrative obligations will be awarded the title of University Specialization in Diagnosis and Treatment of Headaches.
