The st level University Master's Degree in Nursing assistance and operating room instruments develops advanced skills in the field of nursing assistance, in particular as regards the peri-operative, intra-operative and post-operative context. The Master has reached its seventh edition and over the years has trained hundreds of professionals and recent graduates, offering the opportunity to carry out an internship in the JCI accredited Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital.

Recipients and access requirements
The Master is aimed at nurses in possession of a five-year high school diploma and a University Diploma or other qualification recognized as equivalent (Law 8 January 2002, n. 1): Professional Nurse Diploma, University Diploma in Nursing Sciences, University Diploma for Nursing, Diploma in Degree in Nursing.
Educational objectives
The objective of the Master is the specialized training of nurses to be assigned to the profession of operating room instrumentalist for general and specialist surgery through the acquisition of specific skills in terms of knowledge, skills and attitudes required for the management of care processes in the surgical area.
Final profile
At the end of the Master, participants will be able to guarantee high levels of quality and safety:
- in assisting the surgical patient, during the peri-operative, intra-operative and post-operative phases
- in the surgical instrumentation of various specialist areas
- in the maintenance and management of medical devices in use in the operating block.
Didactic structure
The Master lasts 18 months and guarantees the acquisition of 60 credits (equal to 1500 hours). Its modular and part-time formula makes it compatible and contextual with professional commitments and responsibilities.
The 60 credits are divided as follows:
- 34 credits in teaching and study activities
- 16 credits in internship activities
- 10 credits in the elaboration of the master's thesis
The training course is divided into 8 thematic modules:
- the operating block
- advanced nursing skills in the operating room
- surgical instrumentation
- specialist surgery 1
- specialist surgery 2
- neurosurgery
- gynecology and obstetrics
- robotic surgery
Internship
The internship will include a minimum of 150 hours of practical training (equivalent to 16 credits), offering the opportunity to acquire technical skills in:
- circulating operating room nursing
- instrumental nursing
- recovery room (anaesthesia and resuscitation)
The internship will also focus on the activities of:
- sterilization center
- management of all surgical instruments
- use of medical devices and electro-medical equipment
Trainees will be followed by dedicated clinical tutors (professional nurses) who will support them in the learning path in the operating room. To carry out the internship it will be necessary to have medical fitness.
Scholarships covering
There are reduced rates for the staff of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital.
Title awarded
To the participant who:
- will have attended at least 80% of the lessons and 100% of the training activity
- will have passed the intermediate tests and the final didactic test
the st level University Master's degree in Nursing assistance and instrumentation in the operating room will be released.
Pursuant to Circular 5 March 2002, n.448 - National program for continuing education - ECM. (GU General Series n. 110 of 13 May 2002) - healthcare personnel who attend a master's degree are exempt from the obligation of the ECM for all the years included in the training commitment.
