The Postgraduate Course in Precision medicine in cancer treatment was created to provide participants with an update on the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to cancer. The program includes the study of the theoretical and practical bases for the identification, characterization and diagnosis of pathologies and the bases of oncological treatment. Advanced molecular diagnostic techniques will also be studied.
Partner entities
The course is promoted by the Departmental Faculty of Medicine and Surgery ofUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, in collaboration with national and international pharmaceutical companies. The patronage of AIOM, AIRO, SIAPEC, AITIC, Order of Doctors of Rome, National Order of Biologists, Order of TSRM PSTRP Rome and province will be requested.
Recipients and access requirements
The course is aimed at those in possession of a University Diploma pursuant to Law no. 341/1990, or a Bachelor's Degree under the old system, or Bachelor's, or Specialist/Master's Degree (pursuant to Ministerial Decree No. 509/1999 and Ministerial Decree No. 270/2004 respectively) or equivalent qualifications. The course is limited in number, for a maximum of 20 participants.
Educational objectives
The course aims to provide participants with an update on the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to tumors including the examination of diagnostic, prognostic and response predictive molecular factors for clinical use.
Final profile
The course will provide insights into the practical applications of the use of diagnostics in the field of neoplastic diseases. It will also provide the learner with the theoretical and practical foundations for the identification, characterization and diagnosis of pathologies and the foundations of oncological treatment. The techniques of advanced molecular diagnostics will be deepened. Issues concerning the organization and structuring of molecular diagnostic services and the related accreditation procedures will also be discussed.
Didactic structure and thematic areas
The course lasts 11 months, and guarantees the acquisition of 10 credits (equal to 250 hours). Its modular and part-time formula makes it compatible and contextual with professional commitments and responsibilities.
In order to facilitate participants in reconciling work activity with attendance of the Course, some modules will be delivered with the aid of digital teaching technologies, in webinar mode.
The course is divided into 9 thematic modules:
- Module 1 - Breast cancer: tissue markers and precision oncology
- Module 2 - NSCLC: tumor driver & target therapy
- Module 3 - NSCLC: immuno-markers and immuno-oncology
- Module 4 - Kidney cancer: tissue markers and current events in oncology
- Module 5 - Prostate cancer in the era of precision medicine
- Module 6 - Colorectal cancer: tissue markers and precision oncology
- Module 7 - GIST: tissue markers and precision oncology
- Module 8 - Melanoma: tissue markers and precision oncology
- Module 9 - Stomach cancer: tissue markers and precision oncology
Each module includes two lectures, one on oncological aspects and one on anatomopathological aspects, which will frame the specific theme. Furthermore, for each module there is a discussion session and analysis of clinical cases aimed at reinforcing the acquisition of the knowledge learned. The Specialization Course will be completed by 5 monographic sessions related to the modules, of which three sessions held by international experts (in English) and two sessions held by the Scientific Directors of the course.
