The specialization course in precision medicine in the treatment of tumors was created to provide participants with an update on the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to tumors. The program includes the study of the theoretical and practical bases for the identification, characterization and diagnosis of pathologies and the bases of oncological treatment. Advanced molecular diagnostic techniques will also be studied.

Recipients and access requirements
The course is aimed at those in possession of a University Diploma pursuant to Law no. 341/1990, or a Bachelor's Degree under the old system, or Bachelor's, or Specialist/Master's Degree (pursuant to Ministerial Decree No. 509/1999 and Ministerial Decree No. 270/2004 respectively) or equivalent qualifications. Foreign citizens must be in possession of an equivalent qualification.
In particular, the course is intended for the following professional figures:
- medicine,
- Biology,
- Biomedical laboratory health technicians
Educational objectives
The course aims to provide participants with an update on the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to tumors including the examination of diagnostic, prognostic and response predictive molecular factors for clinical use.
Final profile
The course will provide insights into the practical applications of the use of diagnostics in the field of neoplastic diseases. It will also provide the learner with the theoretical and practical foundations for the identification, characterization and diagnosis of pathologies and the foundations of oncological treatment. The techniques of advanced molecular diagnostics will be deepened. Issues concerning the organization and structuring of molecular diagnostic services and the related accreditation procedures will also be discussed.
Didactic structure and thematic areas
The course lasts 10 months, and guarantees the acquisition of 10 credits (equal to 250 hours). Its modular and part-time formula makes it compatible and contextual with professional commitments and responsibilities.
The 10 credits are divided as follows:
- 4,5 credits in teaching and study activities;
- 5,5 credits in the preparation of the final thesis.
The course is divided into 9 thematic modules:
- Module 1 - "Luminal" breast cancer: tissue markers and therapeutic strategies
- Module 2 - "Non luminal" breast cancer: tissue markers and therapeutic strategies
- Module 3 - Melanoma: tissue markers and precision oncology
- Module 4 - Lung cancer: driver mutations and therapy
- Module 5 - Lung cancer: immunotherapy and tissue markers
- Module 6 - UPPER GI (esophagus, stomach, pancreas): tissue markers and precision oncology
- Module 7 - Colon: tissue markers and precision oncology
- Module 8 - Sarcomas: tissue markers and precision oncology
- Module 9 - Orphan Disease: tissue markers and precision oncology
It is possible to attend individual ECM accredited modules.
Title awarded
The title of specialization in "Precision medicine in the treatment of tumors" will be issued with the recognition of 10 credits.
The recognition of the training credit is linked to the regular attendance of the training activities (compulsory for a number of hours of no less than 80% of the lessons) and to the passing of the final exam.
Method of admission
The application for admission to the course must be submitted by December 6, 2019 by sending to the email address [email protected] :

- billing form the admission fee of €50.
The selection includes an evaluation of the curriculum vitae and the cover letter. For the evaluation of each individual candidate, the selection board has a maximum total score of 40 points available, divided as follows:
- evaluation of the scientific/professional study curriculum, to which a maximum score of 30 points can be attributed, of which 10 points for the qualification awarded on the basis of the degree mark (score from 66-70: 1 point, score from 71 -75: 2 points, score from 76-80: 3 points, score from 81-90: 5 points, score from 91-100: 6 points, score from 101-105 points 7, score from 106-109 points 8, score 110: 9 points; 110 cum laude: 10 points), 20 points based on professional experience and scientific production;
- evaluation of the cover letter written by the candidate, which can be awarded a maximum score of 10 points, within which the motivations that drive him to follow the path and the characteristics that make him a suitable candidate must be explained.
