Development of an advanced system for analyzing the efficiency and deterioration of PPE, with particular attention to filtering facepieces and half-masks, using Industry 4.0, IoT, and Artificial Intelligence technologies.
The project arose from the need to overcome current critical issues in the processes of evaluating the effectiveness of personal protective equipment after a period of use.
Currently, the deterioration of PPE is estimated based on visual observation or the manufacturer's indicated lifespan, methods that are subjective and not always representative of actual conditions of use. This approach can lead to both the premature disposal of still-effective devices and the use of compromised PPE, posing a health risk to workers.
The tests available today, such as the Fit Test for APVR (Respiratory Protective Devices), evaluate the fit and effectiveness of the device in relation to the user's characteristics, but do not provide an objective measure of the intrinsic efficiency of the PPE.
The system to be implemented must be designed to fill this gap, introducing advanced monitoring capabilities through sensors, IoT connectivity, and artificial intelligence algorithms. The goal is to offer employers and workers innovative tools to improve safety, promote informed use, and extend the life of PPE, while also promoting the sustainable diffusion of Industry 4.0 technologies in the personal protection sector.
ID 31A4 Inclusion, worker well-being, social responsibilityTELL MEILAFeasibility study for strengthening local community support for the prevention and management of musculoskeletal spinal disorders in healthcare and workplace settings.
The project aims to conduct a feasibility study to define an integrated model for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of musculoskeletal disorders, particularly of the spine, by strengthening local healthcare and occupational care. The project envisions the establishment of a coordination hub at a national orthopedic center of excellence, networked with community centers, general practitioners, physiatrists, physiotherapists, company physicians, and workplace prevention and protection services. Pilot companies and areas with existing community centers will be selected to test shared protocols for early care, secondary prevention, and rehabilitation, including through the use of innovative technologies: telemonitoring platforms, remote biomechanical assessments, pain self-assessment apps, and telerehabilitation tools. The integration of healthcare and workplace settings will enable more timely and targeted management, reducing chronicity, absenteeism, and related disabilities. The study will define sustainability, organizational models, outcome indicators, and the feasibility of a possible national expansion, focusing on equity of access, technological innovation, and continuity of care.
ID 70A9 Asbestos and recycled materialsTELL MEILAStudy of genetic and lipodominant alterations associated with inflammation in order to identify predictive biomarkers in subjects exposed to asbestos
To achieve the project's objectives, the support of external teams with scientific expertise in medicine, cell biology, and pathology is required. This will enable a multidisciplinary pilot study to investigate the genetic and lipidomic alterations associated with inflammation. The study aims to identify predictive biomarkers as a prognostic tool for early detection of the risk of developing malignant pleural mesothelioma in exposed individuals. This assessment could identify individuals at increased risk before the disease manifests clinically, improving the prognosis after curative surgical removal.
