An artificial intelligence approach for risk assessment and prevention of low back pain: towards precision spine care

Project objectives

This project aims to develop and establish the clinical use of a novel Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based platform to assess the risk and progression of chronic back pain (LBP), promoting personalized and improved treatment for spine care. The project will establish an evidence-based approach to collect multifactorial data from patients with LBP. A multidimensional strategy using different AI technologies will be used to assess the multifactorial etiology of LBP, distinguish specific phenotypes of LBP, and provide a decision support system (DSS) to predict specific treatment. The specific objectives are: 1) to validate a clinician platform to estimate the risk of LBP onset, predict outcomes, and promote personalized LBP care based on patient phenotypes; 2) to develop a patient platform to assess LBP progression and treatment effect; 3) to test the platforms in the real clinical setting and compare them with standard care.
