National Center for Agricultural Technologies (AGRITECH)

Project objectives

The Center conducts research and promotes the development of innovative technologies in the agricultural sector to improve the quantity and quality of production, ensuring sustainable adaptation to climate change also through prevention, resistance and resilience to risks (drought, health emergencies, soil impoverishment). The adoption of agroecological principles and conservative agriculture, combined with the selection of new production varieties and the rediscovery of ancient crops, will allow for the diversification of production and will support local supply chains by reducing waste, surpluses and environmental impacts. The Center uses enabling technologies such as artificial intelligence and advanced production to promote precision agriculture aimed at containing agrochemicals and greenhouse gas emissions, thus preserving the protection of natural resources, and reducing production losses and waste. Through biotechnological and circular economy approaches it will also be possible to enhance waste biomass, promoting the development of alternative supply chains capable of making activities sustainable even for small and medium-sized farmers. Another theme of the Center concerns the application of artificial intelligence systems in agriculture and related industries to implement the safety, traceability and typicality of the supply chain and agricultural products. The research and innovation actions of the Agritech Center are also essential to identify effective solutions for marginal agricultural areas and those at risk of erosion, generating innovation and aggregation of stakeholders to promote the resilience and sustainability of agricultural, agri-food and non-food production businesses.
