RGM5: (RE)-GIVE ME FIVE, EXPLORING NEW FRONTIERS IN PROSTHETIC SURGERY
Project objectives
The overall objective is to create a new concept of the amputated limb, the result of advances in bionics: no longer a non-functional extremity that passively adapts to a socket, but an active structure, adaptable to the application of a robotic limb stable and capable of a real sensorimotor interaction which also includes proprioceptive feedback.
In particular:
Carry out advanced and combined ad hoc surgical procedures for the revision and functionalisation of the upper limb stump (osseointegration, Targeted Muscle Reinnervation, Targeted Sensory Reinnervation etc.) in order to adapt it to new generation prosthetic devices on a series of patients always wider. Furthermore, the objective is to include the innovative techniques described in the routine management of patients with upper limb amputation;
Return the proprioceptive information of the prosthesis to the user, through the study and application of surgical methods
L'Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma promotes integrated teaching and research structures, pursuing the good of the person as the main aim of its activities.
