Fit4MedRob

Fit for Medical Robotics

Project objectives

The project aims to address the gaps that have prevented the nationwide clinical adoption of first-in-class, patient-specific, robotic and digital therapies/treatments. Specifically, it aims to:

  • Identify the needs of patients and rehabilitation operators/therapists, associated with specific pathologies and not satisfied by the robotic technologies currently available and/or employed.
  • Adapt existing rehabilitation, care and occupational robots to the above needs and patients while developing protocols based on leading neuroscience evidence.
  • To clinically evaluate these robots and provide conclusive clinical evidence of their effectiveness when adapted to different patient/individual groups.
  • Perform a detailed cost-benefit analysis of such applications
  • Optimize clinical protocols to create specific paradigms to increase the inclusion of healthcare and personal care robots in medical, rehabilitation, and occupational settings.
  • Develop and promote the inclusion and democratization of robots and sustainable treatments in the national health system, including through the development of specific economic, business and reimbursement models, as well as through their modeling in a way that also fits with existing private law instruments used in the welfare system.

Prepare the next generation of healthcare and personal care robots (and robotics in general) by promoting the study of new hypotheses/ideas and technologies, including (bio)nanoengineered smart materials and sustainable energy sources that attempt to overcome the main limitations encountered by current robots used as physical assistants.
