MoveToZero

Project Objectives

MoveToZero aims at designing and implementing a fully integrated system for the production of synthetic natural gas (SNG) deriving from green hydrogen and carbon dioxide captured by plants classified as large emitters. The electrolyser for hydrogen production is set to be run by renewable electricity, generated by photovoltaic panels, installed within a commercial site dedicated to selling cars. The produced SNG need to fulfill the criteria to be injected into the regional transportation network, therefore detaining a hydrogen percentage not exceeding the current regulations. Alternatively, based on the indications of a thorough technical-economic analysis, it will be possible to equip the production site with distribution stations, to enable the direct selling of SNG. The further objective of the project is to implement a business sustainability model to be replicated on a large scale with appropriate arrangements arising from the specificities of the site.

The Research Unit of Process Engineering is majorly involved in the basic design of the overall system, as well as in the techno-economic and environmental analysis of the implemented processes.
