PON1_01297 Virtualab: Advanced Systems of Biomedical Mechatronics for Diagnosis and Medical Therapy based on Virtual and Augmented Reality, Microelectronics and Robotic laboratories with high throughput

Project Objectives

The Molecular Medicine and Biotechnology laboratory at University Campus Bio-Medico of Rome is part of the PON01_01297 project in relation to OR4.3. The main objective of this project is to study an automated and integrated process for a robotic system of molecular diagnostics. This system is under development for the modification of genomic DNA and the identification of methylated/unmethylated cytosine residues, according to standard bisulfite treatment method.

By employing validated and routinely used commercial systems, some modifications to the protocol for adapting liquid handling robotic system and standardizing parameters and individual steps have been made, according to a protocol in compliance with the standards of clinical diagnostics. The protocol is optimized for all downstream applications on 96 and/or 384 well platforms, such as Real-Time® Quantitative Methylation-Specific PCR and bisulfite sequencing, as well as COBRA and Pyrosequencing®.
