Researchers ofUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma and the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico in the international selection process developed by Stanford University and Elsevier. Twenty entries in the ranking, which takes into account scientific impact throughout the entire career. A research ecosystem that encompasses the three Departmental Faculties and doctoral programs.

Rome, 5 November 2026 – Forty researchers with affiliation to theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma or to the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico appear in the World's Top 2% Scientists List 2026, the international classification developed by researchers at Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, which identifies scientists with the greatest bibliometric impact in their respective disciplinary fields.

The result is divided into two distinct indicators. There are over forty researchers present in the list. single-year impact, which considers the scientific impact referred to a single year, while 20 appear in the ranking career-long impact, dedicated to the scholarly contribution developed throughout a scholar's career. The two rankings provide complementary perspectives on the international visibility of research and the scholars' contribution to scientific production.

Inclusion in the ranking recognizes the work conducted within the University and the Policlinico Foundation and demonstrates the two institutions' ability to contribute to the advancement of knowledge through scientific activity that spans diverse and complementary fields, from medicine to biotechnology, from bioengineering to applied sciences, and even artificial intelligence and sustainability.

This result is part of a research model based on the integration of disciplines and collaboration between the University's three departmental faculties: Medicine, Surgery and Dentistry, Engineering and Science and BiotechnologyThree academic fields that contribute, through their respective scientific expertise and their Research Units, to the development of knowledge and innovative solutions for health, personal well-being, and quality of life.

From this perspective, a central role is also played by research training and the preparation of new generations of researchers.Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma develops its higher education activity through four paths coordinated by the doctoral school: the PhD in Integrated Biomedical Sciences and Bioethics, PhD in Bioengineering, Applied Sciences and Intelligent Systems, il PhD in Sustainable Development: Environment, Food and Health, eil PhD of National Interest in Artificial Intelligence, Health and Life Sciences Area.

These programs contribute to strengthening an interdisciplinary scientific community, capable of connecting biomedical, engineering, technological, and environmental expertise and addressing complex issues through cross-disciplinary dialogue. Doctoral training represents, in this context, a fundamental step for the growth of research and internationalization, knowledge transfer, and the development of new scientific perspectives.

«Research is one of the founding elements of the mission of the Bio-Medico Campus and the recognition obtained by our researchers confirms the value of a scientific commitment that develops over time, through different skills, experiences and study paths.", fromchiara Rocco Papalia, Magnificent Rector of theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma that holds the top spot. "Being in the World's Top 2% Scientists List isn't just an individual achievement. It's also the expression of an integrated academic and scientific community, involving departmental faculties, research units, doctoral programs, and the Fondazione Policlinico. Our commitment is to promote research that fosters dialogue between disciplines, generates knowledge, and contributes concretely to addressing the major challenges of medicine, health, and innovation. For our University, research means pursuing scientific excellence and, at the same time, putting knowledge at the service of individuals and society.».

Among the results of the 2026 edition, the presence of also stands out: Maria Grazia De Marinis, Maria Matarese e Michela Piredda, three teachers of theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma included in the subcategory Nursing, which includes a total of 73.697 authors. This recognition recognizes the University's contribution to nursing research, a key area for the evolution of healthcare systems, the quality of care, and the training of healthcare professionals.

The three professors carry out research and teaching activities at the Departmental Faculty of Medicine, Surgery and Dentistry. «The presence of three of our faculty members in the Nursing subcategory is part of a nursing tradition that has accompanied the University since its inception. The Nursing program was among the first to be offered, when it still consisted of a university degree. The nursing profession particularly expresses our vision, which is based on the centrality of the person. Alongside their scientific training and the ability to operate in increasingly complex healthcare settings, nurses bring an irreplaceable presence to care, based on listening, proximity, and attentiveness to suffering. It is precisely this ability to combine knowledge and human sensitivity that makes their role fundamental in accompanying each person on their journey of care, with competence, responsibility, and respect for their dignity.», adds the Rector.

The World's Top 2% Scientists List

La World's Top 2% Scientists List It is an international classification developed by researchers at Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier, based on bibliometric indicators that measure the scientific impact of researchers worldwide. The list identifies scholars who are among the 2% most cited in their respective disciplinary fields, considering both the overall impact of their career (career-long impact) both that relating to a single year (single-year impact).

The classification is based on bibliometric data, including citations and composite indicators of scientific impact, and is divided into various disciplinary areas and subcategories. It applies to researchers in bibliometric fields and is a useful tool for analyzing the visibility and impact of scientific research internationally, although it does not represent a comprehensive assessment of a researcher's overall quality or their scientific output.
