Rome, September 25, 2026 – Sarcoma training finds a new international meeting point in Rome. It is born from the collaboration between the European School of Oncology (ESO) andUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma (UCBM Academy) il Master's Degree in Sarcoma, a path that brings together the scientific and clinical expertise of some of the leading European oncology centers.
This international dimension will be visible from the very beginning of the Master's course. September 25th at the Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, will participate 27 doctors from 20 countries. Alongside the Italian professionals, colleagues will arrive from France, Germany, Romania, and Ukraine, as well as from Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay, Algeria, Iraq, and Jordan.
Medical oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists They will discuss the decisions that accompany the treatment of sarcomas: from diagnosis to the choice and sequencing of treatments. The program includes soft tissue and bone sarcomas, desmoid tumors, pediatric and uterine sarcomas, and gastrointestinal stromal tumors, or GISTs.
Leading the course is Bruno Vincenzi, Host Chair, medical oncologist at the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Campus Bio-Medico and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Surgery and Dentistry at theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di RomaHis clinical and research activity focuses on rare tumors, with particular attention to soft tissue sarcomas and GISTs.
Multidisciplinarity is the cornerstone of the diagnosis and treatment of sarcomas, an extremely heterogeneous group of rare tumors that affect connective tissues such as muscle, bone, fat, and blood vessels. Due to their complexity and the variety of histological subtypes (over 80-100 variants), no single medical specialty can manage them in isolation. The correct approach requires constant interaction within a Sarcoma Board (or Multidisciplinary Oncology Group - GOM) composed of oncological/orthopedic surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, expert pathologists, and radiologists. To meet this training need and consolidate an approach, we have chosen to create a high-level academic training program like this Master's degree. The scientific direction is also entrusted to Sylvie Bonvalot, Course Chair, surgical oncologist and head of the Sarcoma Unit at the Institut Curie in Paris. Representing ESO College will be Silvia Brotea-Mosoiu, medical oncologist at the Oncology Institute of Bucharest.
From diagnosis to therapeutic strategy
The course will begin with the World Health Organization classification and molecular biology, then delve into imaging, biopsy techniques, and anatomical-radiological correlations. Subsequent sessions will focus on quality criteria in sarcoma surgery, systemic treatments, and the role, sequence, and fractionation of radiotherapy in localized and metastatic disease. Special attention will be paid to treatment selection based on the histological subtype and the clinical and molecular characteristics of the tumor. In addition to lectures, the program includes the presentation and multidisciplinary discussion of clinical cases prepared by the faculty and participants themselves.

The course will involve specialists from some of Europe's leading oncology centers. Speakers include: Angelo Paolo Dei Tos (University of Padua), Armelle Dufresne (Centre Léon Bérard in Lyon), Dario Callegaro e Carlo Morosi (IRCCS Foundation National Cancer Institute of Milan), Nathalie Gaspar and Carine Ngo (Gustave Roussy), Sarah Watson and Sylvie Bonvalot (Institut Curie). The new Master in Sarcoma
The new Master in Sarcoma is the academic path developed by the European School of Oncology in collaboration with theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma To strengthen the clinical and scientific skills of professionals working in sarcoma care. The Master's program will last 15 months and will integrate theoretical training and field experience. The program includes ten online modules, two in-person seminars, a clinical internship at a unit specializing in sarcoma care, and the preparation and defense of a final thesis.
