Monday, June 8th atUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma the conference promoted in collaboration with UCBM Academy and EssilorLuxottica brought together specialists, researchers and industry experts to discuss the latest technological and clinical innovations dedicated to the early management of hearing loss.

Rome, June 10, 2026 – Hearing loss is now one of the most common chronic conditions in the adult population, with a prevalence that progressively increases with age. In most cases, hearing loss is mild or moderate and, while significantly impacting quality of life, often remains untreated due to cultural barriers, social stigma, and difficulty accepting the problem.

To explore new clinical and technological perspectives in the management of these forms of hearing loss, Monday, June 8, 2026, from 05:00 pm PM to 08:00 pm PM, at the Great Hall of theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, the conference was held “New frontiers of hearing rehabilitation in mild and moderate deafness”, promoted in collaboration with UCBM Academy and EssilorLuxottica.

The meeting brought together some of the leading experts in the Italian audiology and ENT field for a multidisciplinary discussion dedicated to the evolution of care pathways, new scientific evidence, and emerging technologies for hearing support.

The proceedings were opened by the Prof. Manuele Casale, Director of the Conference and Full Professor of Otolaryngology at theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, who introduced the topic of MedTech innovation applied to hearing health. This was followed by an in-depth look at EssilorLuxottica's experience and the company's evolution from eyewear to MedTech.

Among the scientific focuses of the program, particular attention was paid to new technologies “open-ear” and the latest international clinical evidence. The results obtained from innovative hearing solutions integrated into smart glasses are explored. These solutions, designed for adults with mild to moderate perceived hearing loss, use directional microphones and discreet amplification systems to improve hearing in complex everyday situations, such as crowded restaurants, noisy work environments, or family conversations.

During the conference, data and analyses from international studies and research centres were also presented, including the National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL), which highlight benefits in understanding speech in the presence of competing noise and in reducing listening effort.

Prof. Roberto tree has deepened the audiometric results of the new integrated acoustic amplification solutions.

The central moment of the event was the round table dedicated to the management of mild-moderate hearing loss, which saw the comparison between the main ENT schools in Rome and some of the most authoritative specialists in the sector, including Prof. Jacopo Galli, Prof. Stefano Di Girolamo and Prof. Daniele De Seta.

The debate offered a shared reflection on the importance of early diagnosis and the evolution of increasingly accessible, discreet, and easily adoptable tools, capable of promoting an initial informed approach to managing hearing loss.

In a context increasingly focused on prevention and personalized treatment, new technologies are not seen as alternatives to traditional rehabilitation treatments, but as complementary tools capable of identifying hearing impairment early, facilitating a gradual transition to more structured clinical pathways.

“In Italy, overall, people with hearing problems are estimated to be around 12% of the population and approximately 40% of people over 75 have significant hearing loss - he recalled the teacher. Manuele Casale, ordinary UCBM, director of the Otolaryngology Unit of the FPUCBM, Rector's Delegate for UCBM Academy and Simulation Center With the conference, we gave further meaning to our motto, "Science for Man." When technology and industry meet the needs of people's health, as in this case, we are confident we have made a step forward for people's well-being. The presence of Rome's ENT specialist schools was crucial: a presence that confirms the scientific value of this initiative on a topic that engages a growing number of citizens every year.

“The collaboration between the Campus Bio-Medico University and EssilorLuxottica represents the concrete application of a method: training, collaboration, scientific support up to the realization of concrete projects such as acoustic glasses – stressed Rossella Ferreri, responsible for UCBM Academy -  As a UCBM At the Academy, we are at the heart of these processes, bringing together hundreds of professionals every year through our Courses and Masters who, as teachers or students, get to know each other and exchange ideas, laying the foundations for new collaborations."
