Rome, 8 October 2014 - The Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital adheres to the second edition of the 'Ottobre Rosa' campaign, dedicated by the Lazio Region to the promotion of preventive screening for breast cancer. On the four Wednesday mornings ranging from 8 to 29 October, at the outpatient clinics of the facility, women aged between 45 and 49 and between 70 and 74 will be able to undergo a specialist visit with the breast surgeon free of charge, with the possibility to be subjected, if necessary, to breast ultrasound or mammography.

To receive further information on the Campaign or to book a visit, it is possible to call the dedicated telephone number 06.22541.8150, active from 11.00 to 12.30 and from 14.30 to 15.30, from Monday to Friday.

The aim of the Lazio Region's 'Pink October' campaign is to spread the culture of preventive breast screening, especially among women aged between 45 and 74 years. The concrete objective is the growth of the regional figure for adherence to screenings, which last year recorded a +8 percent compared to 2012, going from 40 to 48 percent, in order to bring the national target of 60 percent closer of women between the ages of 50 and 69 undergoing preventive checks. Data released by the Italian League for the Fight against Tumors (LILT) indicate that in 87 percent of cases women recover from this pathology, in which prevention plays an essential role.

Breast cancer is the leading cause of death among women in Italy. In our country, one in 8 women falls ill with breast cancer. The new cases registered at national level, in the last year, are about 46 thousand, of which 4 thousand in Lazio. In the last six years there has been an increase in the incidence of 14 percent (source: AIRC). In this context, it is essential to foster an increasingly widespread culture of prevention.
