A precious opportunity to take stock of the University, which has always aimed towards innovation thanks to its Integrated Research Center (CIR), 40 operational units, 20 research laboratories and over 100 researchers. A growing University in all areas.
“Compared to last year - explained the President, Felice Barela - we have 14 more professors, and six procedures per researcher are underway. Our University Hospital, on the other hand, has equipped itself with 35 new beds, and has activated brachytherapy in the fight against tumors. Our University - has continued - is making a particular effort to work on quality, continuing to strengthen the academic body". Among the tangible fruits of this commitment Barela has reported “the gratifying results of our University's graduates in Medicine and Surgery in the national competition for access to Specialization Schools, which places us - according to the assessments made by external subjects - among the top five Italian universities. A special mention also goes to our 17 professors who have re-entered the ranks of top Italian scientists".
He also spoke of growth Rector, Andrea Onetti Muda, summarizing the results of the research activity: “In 2014 we had an 11% increase in the number of publications, with a 22% increase in the normalized impact factor, the international indicator of the quality of the publications themselves. Over 130 research projects have been active in the last 12 months, with a 75% increase in those presented in European tenders compared to 2014.Our selection of teaching staff - the Rector then added - we have very courageously supported the external evaluation of our Polyclinic with the Joint Commission International, the largest international quality verification body, also applying for the visit of Anvur, the National Agency for University Evaluation and Research" .
After the intervention of Student Representative, Carlo Maria Giannitti, the inaugural address was entrusted to Professor Maria Grazia De Marinis, first Professor of Nursing Sciences in Italy. "The development of Nursing in the dialogue between art and science" is the theme developed by the teacher.

The University - he added - it must then help us to get out of this return of scientific illiteracy that our country is experiencing, as demonstrated first by the Stamina affair and then by that of vaccines. We live in the Renaissance of science and in the Middle Ages of communication and we can no longer accept that there are doctors who administer false therapies or who deny scientific evidence". The Minister then announced the "Status General of bio-medical research" for March, to elaborate a strategic plan valid for the next few years. “We must not only think about stemming the brain drain – added - but above all to attract them to our country, which is among the first in Europe for biomedical research".
Together with the Rector, the Minister then awarded Dr. Giovanni Di Pino, researcher ofUCBM just inserted between the top young scientists of Europe thanks to the Reshape project, selected from over three thousand. For him, a long and heartfelt standing ovation from all those present. Awards also to the best students of each degree course.
The inauguration ceremony concluded with Mass celebrated by the card. Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, who invited those present to "make the Bio-Medico Campus a place where the culture of proximity is developed and where solidarity is formed".
