Empower Italian pharmacists to take a leading role in addressing major global challenges for human, animal, and environmental health. These are the objectives of "From One Health to Open Health," a sustainable pharmacy training program promoted byCampus Bio-Medico University of Rome with the unconditional support of Zambon.
The program aims to promote the development of new initiatives and services in Italian pharmacies inspired by the principles of environmental and social sustainability and the One Health philosophy, effectively integrating this approach into everyday pharmacy operations. The core of the initiative is targeted training for pharmacists to support them in communicating with customers, patients, and caregivers on key issues such as the responsible use of medications according to the therapeutic appropriateness recommended by the physician, the proper disposal of unused or expired medications, and effective communication geared toward prevention and monitoring.

The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) recently emphasized that pharmacists recognize climate change as an urgent threat to public health, while highlighting widespread uncertainty about how to address it effectively. In a recent guide1, published in November by FIP itself, actively promotes the creation and sharing of high-quality training programs to strengthen the role of pharmacies in addressing contemporary environmental and social challenges.
The project From One Health to Open Health, which will start in March 2026 and will develop on a national scale, will be implemented through a Accredited ECM Program – with credits for pharmacists – with two live, one-hour interactive webinars (repeated in two editions) and seven 30-minute asynchronous training sessions, available on the e-learning platform.
Through the educational engagement program conceived by the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome with a dedicated project board, pharmacists will be able to learn about One Health and design their own roadmap to sustainability, becoming increasingly attentive to the social and environmental needs of the local area.
