Evaluation of the outcomes of the trapeziometacarpal prosthesis for the treatment of rhizarthrosis in comparison with trapezectomy and suspension tenoplasty

Prospective randomized clinical trial

Project objectives

The most common intervention for the treatment of rhizarthrosis (trapezio-metacarpal osteoarthritis) consists in performing the intervention of trapeziectomy and suspension tenoplasty. In recent years, as an alternative with promising results and a low rate of complications, the trapezium-metacarpal prosthesis is spreading more and more.

The aim of the project is to carry out a prospective randomized clinical study comparing, in terms of clinical and radiographic results, functional scores, restoration of pressure force and complication rate, between patients undergoing trapezio-metacarpal prosthesis implantation and patients undergoing trapeziectomy and suspension tenoplasty for the treatment of rhizarthrosis.
