Himetop - The History of Medicine Topographical Database (http://himetop.net/) it's a open access online database and collaborative development, which collects photos and documents of all types of material memories related to history of medicine and health care: from ancient hospitals to works of art, from places linked to the life of the protagonists of health history to specialized museum collections. The purpose of the database is to help locate and document the current state of conservation (and, if possible, evolution over time) of each site or object. The related bibliography and a link to a Google map, dedicated in particular to the Himetop project in a specific country or geographical area, enrich each file.
Currently (2023) the database, which only hosts contributions in English, contains over 3.000 fact sheets relating to places and objects located in almost 40 countries and divided into 25 main categories. The places and monuments in the database refer to approximately 1.300 protagonists of medical history worldwide. Although Italy is the most represented country, the database regularly receives contributions from many other countries. The most active, in the last two years, have been Poland, Portugal and the United Kingdom. Over the same period, the database received visits from over 100.000 different users who accessed an average of 230 listings per day.
