Qualification to practice the profession

L'Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma It is a recognized legal office for taking the state exams to obtain the qualification to practice the professions of Junior Engineer and Engineer. 

State exams are announced annually by order of the Ministry of Education and Research, which can be downloaded, as soon as it is available, from the "Sessions" section of this page. 

Are provided two exam sessions, one in spring and one in autumnThese exams have been the subject of a reform (Presidential Decree 328/01) which establishes two distinct levels, which correspond to two distinct sections in the Professional Orders:

  • SECTION A: accessed with a master's, specialist or five-year degree (old system)
  • SECTION B: accessed with a university degree or university diploma, with a specialist/master's degree and a five-year degree (old system)

To take the State Exam it is necessary to present application for admission to the chosen location, provided that the application deadline and the start of the exams are the same throughout the country. Candidates may apply to only one university.

The exams have a specifically professional nature and consist of written, graphic and oral tests.

The tests are intended to ascertain the candidate's basic preparation in the disciplines in which knowledge is necessary for the practice of the profession of Engineer and to test, in concrete terms, his/her technical capacity with a view to adequately carrying out professional activities.

At l 'Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma it is possible to obtain the following qualifications:

  • Engineer - SECTION A - Sectors: Civil and environmental, Industrial and information
  • Engineer - SECTION B - Sectors: Civil and environmental junior, Industrial junior and information junior

For each Register, Section and Sector, the degree classes that can access it are listed below.

ATTENTION: Graduates of three-year university diploma courses are eligible to take the state exams according to Table A, attached to Presidential Decree 328/01.

Type of tests - Section A

CIVIL-ENVIRONMENTAL, INDUSTRIAL AND INFORMATION ENGINEER - SECTION A

Pursuant to Article 47, paragraph 3 of Presidential Decree 328/01 (see regulatory section) The state exam for the Civil-Environmental, Industrial and Information sectors is divided into the following tests: 

  1. a written test on the subjects characterizing the sector for which registration is requested (single topic - duration 4 hours);
  2. a second written test in the subjects characterizing the degree class corresponding to the specific training path (in the event that more than one topic is assigned, the candidate will have to complete one of his or her choice - duration 4 hours);
  3. an oral exam in the subjects covered by the written exams and in legislation and professional ethics.
  4. a practical design test in the subjects characterizing the degree class corresponding to the specific training path (in the event that multiple topics are assigned, the candidate will have to complete one of his or her choice - duration 8 hours);

Exemption from the written test

Pursuant to Articles 47, paragraphs 4 and 5 of Presidential Decree 328/01:

  • those enrolled in Section B, admitted to take the State exam for admission to Section A, are exempt from the second written test, provided that the sector of origin coincides with that for which registration is requested
  • for those enrolled in a sector who request enrollment in another sector of the same section, the State exam is divided into the following tests:
    • a written test in the subjects characterizing the sector for which enrollment is required
    • a practical design test in the subjects characterizing the sector for which enrollment is required

Types of tests - Section B

JUNIOR CIVIL-ENVIRONMENTAL, INDUSTRIAL AND INFORMATION ENGINEER - SECTION B

Pursuant to Article 48, paragraph 3 of Presidential Decree 328/01 (see regulatory section) the state exam for the sectors Civil-Environmental, Industrial and Information It is divided into the following tests:

  1. a written test on the subjects characterizing the sector for which registration is requested (single topic - duration 4 hours);
  2. a second written test in the subjects relating to one of the disciplinary areas, chosen by the candidate, characterising the degree class corresponding to the specific training path (the candidate will have to write a topic of his/her choice from those proposed - duration 4 hours);
  3. an oral exam in the subjects covered by the written exams and in legislation and professional ethics;
  4. a practical design test in the subjects relating to one of the disciplinary areas, chosen by the candidate, characterising the degree class corresponding to the specific training path (the candidate will have to develop a topic of his/her choice from those proposed - duration 8 hours);

Exemption from the written test

Pursuant to art. 48, paragraph 4 of Presidential Decree 328/01:

  • for those enrolled in a sector who request enrollment in another sector of the same section, the State exam is divided into the following tests:
    • a written test in the subjects characterizing the sector for which enrollment is required
    • a practical design test in the subjects characterizing the sector for which enrollment is required

2024 session

Pursuant to the Ministerial Ordinance no. 635 of 29-04-2024.pdf, and with MUR note n. 9512 of 17.05.2024, in derogation of the regulatory provisions in force, the first and second sessions of the year 2024 of the state exams for the qualification to practice professions they consist of a written test and an oral test carried out in person. To this end, universities guarantee that the aforementioned tests cover all the subjects provided for by the specific reference regulations and that they are able to ascertain the acquisition of the skills, notions and abilities required by the regulations regarding each individual professional profile.
