The 2026 edition of the World Petunia Days (WPD2026), the prestigious international congress dedicated to advanced research on Petunia, one of the main model plants used in plant genetics and biotechnology studies. The event, held by 3 5 to June at the Multipurpose Hall of the Oikia Foundation, brought together 40 researchers and scientists coming from the main European and American universities and research institutes, confirming itself as an important moment of international scientific comparison.
Over the course of the three days, participants shared the latest research findings in the fields of molecular genetics, plant biotechnology and plant-based developmental biology, disciplines that play an increasingly central role in understanding the fundamental mechanisms of life and in the development of innovative applications for agriculture, agro-industry, and sustainability.
One of the distinctive elements of the World Petunia Days 2026 was the particular attention dedicated to young researchersBorn with the aim of encouraging the growth of new generations of scientists, the congress reserved ample space for early-career scientists, promoting direct dialogue with some of the leading international experts in the sector and creating a dynamic, collaborative environment oriented towards knowledge sharing.
The initiative took place under the scientific coordination of the prof Laura de Gara and teacher. Eugenio Benvenuto dell 'Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, authoritative points of reference in the fields of food science, nutrition and biotechnology applied to agro-industry.

The numbers of the event
