The DEA spaces, ready to open as early as April 2020 and converted into a Covid Center during the first wave of the pandemic (March - April 2020), were opened to the public for the first time on 1 September 2020. After 58 days , on October 28 last year, the DEA suspended its activities to make room for the Campus Covid Center 2.0. A fluctuating path for the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital which has always worked in concert with the Lazio Region to respond to the priority health and assistance needs of citizens.

Today, with a design and construction effort that lasted until recent weeks, the Emergency Department of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital has adapted to the most recent provisions of the Lazio Region to guarantee maximum safety for all patients who access the Trigoria health facility, a safe hospital.

The Emergency Department expands the emergency-urgency network of Rome by making a new level I DEA available to the community. It is included in the time-dependent networks of the Lazio Region to ensure timely treatment for all pathologies and, in particular, for those:

  • acute cerebrovascular (stroke),
  • acute vascular (aneurysms),
  • acute cardiology (heart attacks),
  • cardiac surgery

as well as for all cases of traumatology and acute surgical pathologies.

The structure of the new Emergency Room has a dedicated operating room located in the immediate vicinity of the high intensity as well as the Interventional radiology and hemodynamics. The new Goddess of Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital can also count on a service of Imaging diagnostics dedicated equipped with a TAC 300 layers with very high performance.

Among the characterizing elements: theorganization of patient flow by levels of severity (subdivided into medium-low and high intensity). Great attention has been paid to privacy, comfort and well-being of patients with the preparation of OBI areas (Short Intensive Observation) with 8 beds for those who need a longer period of observation and one holding area from 12 separate beds between men and women for those waiting for the bed for hospitalization or transfer to other facilities in case of lack of available bed.

Features a protected path fever created to safely manage access to the emergency room by minimizing the risks in this period associated with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Il protected path fever creates a mandatory itinerary for everyone by creating a pre-triage passage between the outside and the health facility thanks to which it is possible completely separate the streams as they arrive, even before being subjected to triage, by sending suspicious patients along a dedicated, isolated, comfortable and different itinerary from that of patients who do not present risk characteristics.

Inside the DEA the triage is equipped with first visit rooms. Investment in theaccessibility: they will be present in the emergency room parking lot stalls reserved for people with disabilities and a pink parking.

THEheliport it is located a few meters from the entrance to the DEA and allows the use of air ambulances.

"We are particularly happy to be able to give back to the capital and neighboring territories a safe haven for emergency and urgent care - he said Felice Barela, president ofUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma – which represents a return to normality after a year and a half of the pandemic, which has forced us several times to modify the structural and organizational structures of the University Hospital. The activity carried out in harmony and connection with the Lazio Region has allowed us, in these months in which the emergency room has remained closed to make room for the Covid Center, to make a significant contribution to the fight against Covid-19 and in the continuity of care for people with other pathologies".

“With this reopening - he said Paolo Sormani, general manager of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital – let's go back to giving health answers within the regional emergency network and the networks to deal with time-dependent pathologies such as strokes, aneurysms and heart attacks. The experience gained with the creation of the Campus Covid Center and the Campus Covid Center 2.0 is a wealth of valuable knowledge that has made it possible to reorganize the Emergency Room to respond safely and efficiently in the post-pandemic. The first level DEA of the Campus Bio-Medico General Hospital can now also count on the presence of an ARES 118 station which, together with the heliport, guarantees the possibility of rapid access even from distant territories or reachable only by flight".
