Thanks to the Vision-RT (Surface Guided Radiotherapy) system, the machine is able to check the correct positioning of the patient and the clinical target during the delivery of the radiation beam

Rome, 20 December 2021 - Very high precision of oncological treatments, reduction of side effects, "tattoo free" sessions that avoid permanent tattoos and reduce the psychological impact on patients: with the entry into operation of second Truebeam linear accelerator the quality of care in the Radiotherapy center of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital is growing.

Thanks for installing latest generation technologies such as the Vision-RT system (Surface Guided Radiotherapy) the new TrueBeam linear accelerator at the center in via àlvaro del Portillo, in addition to being able to direct the radiation beam against the tumor mass with millimeter precision, is able to control the correct positioning of the patient and of the clinical target during entire treatment delivery.

The new machinery allows you to perform the pre-treatment checks with the “Cone Beam CT4D” system which takes into account the time factor for organs that tend to move with the breath (such as lungs, liver and pancreas); it also uses a modern “6 degrees of freedom” bed capable of automatically positioning the patient with maximum autonomy.

From today all radiotherapy services provided at the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital are performed with advanced level techniques which greatly simplify the treatment of many tumor pathologies, avoiding the need for surgery in a large number of cases. From time to time the radiotherapy treatment is directed and dosed in a personalized way thanks to the work of a specialized team of doctors and physicists. Tumors located anywhere in the body such as those of the prostate, pleura or spinal cord and upper abdomen are affected more effectively and without affecting the functionality of other vital organs, healthy and often very close to the organ to be treated.

"This is an element of further growth in the service to citizens for the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital which today with its Radiotherapy is able to treat over 2000 patients a year and wants to be a point of reference in this sector - comments the general director of the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital, Paolo Sormani – Despite the obstacles generated by the pandemic, the last two years have seen a significant increase in the services provided which for us means having helped many people to overcome difficult moments and situations of fragility".

“The new True Beam Linear Accelerator equipped with the most advanced patient control and monitoring systems - emphasizes the professor Sara Ramella, director of the Complex Operational Unit of Oncological Radiotherapy - fits perfectly into the line of growth of the service to the population because it will make it possible to further increase the use of advanced techniques and the possibility of healing and treatment for patients who rely on our Polyclinic".
