All 'Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, the post-graduate offering: a cutting-edge simulation center for master's degrees, ECM courses and Executive programs

Rome, 14 January 2025 - When it comes to excellence in post-graduate education, theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma has chosen to do things in a big way. At the heart of this vision is theUCBM Academy, which with its Simulation Center promotes postgraduate training by connecting professional paths with market needs. It transforms knowledge into practice, expertise, and innovation. The Academy is aimed not only at future doctors, but at all professionals who want to update their skills, specialize, and address the most current challenges in the healthcare, scientific, and managerial worlds. Leading this mission is Professor Manuele Casale, full professor of otorhinolaryngology and scientific director of the Academy. «In UCBM Academy we unite the academic tradition UCBM with an innovative vision based on the concept of Long Life Learning – explains Professor Casale – organizing training courses that are not limited to theory, but are developed in concrete, collaborative and interactive contexts».

THE SIMULATION CENTER - As in the Simulation Center, the flagship of the training UCBM Academy is a true laboratory of innovation and experimentation. "It extends over approximately 400 square meters in the basement of the CU, Bo, the Cultural Box of the Bio-Medico Campus," Professor Casale explains, "a recently constructed 10-square-meter building, surrounded by greenery and designed to high environmental standards. The center faithfully reproduces contemporary healthcare settings and offers immersive technologies suited to modern training, with high-tech simulation equipment, interactive projection systems, cinematic 3D audio, sensory stimulation, dynamic lighting, and continuous monitoring systems for real-time data collection." From the hospital room to the operating room, from resuscitation to hemodynamics, to the home environments where care for frail or disabled patients is simulated, every space is equipped with high-fidelity instruments and simulators, capable of reacting to the operators' maneuvers as a real patient would.

AS IN REALITY The technological heart of the Simulation Center is the immersive room, a multisensory environment where 360-degree images, sounds, lights, smells, and even wind recreate complex clinical situations: an overcrowded emergency room, an accident with multiple injuries, a major emergency. Here, stress is not only simulated, but actually felt by those practicing in the scenario. It is precisely in these conditions that skills are acquired and "trained": knowing how to make correct decisions when everything around us encourages error. "For us, the Simulation Center represents a fundamental and strategic asset in promoting patient safety and developing transversal skills," emphasizes Professor Casale. "It allows us to transform training from a theoretical process to a real, controlled, and measurable experience. A culture of safety is created in a protected environment, where it is possible to make mistakes, learn from them, and transform them into an opportunity for growth."

TRAINING AND LEARNING Technology alone is not enough. At the Simulation Center UCBM The simulation is part of a rigorous training program, based on experience-centered teaching methodologies. Each scenario is followed by a structured debriefing, an analysis phase in which teachers and participants review what happened, discuss decisions made, and identify errors and possible alternatives. This is where action becomes knowledge. It's not about judging, but about understanding, to build increasingly safe behaviors.

RESEARCH, TEACHING AND INDUSTRY The Simulation Center is an ecosystem where training becomes experimentation. Here, companies and researchers can test innovative materials or evaluate new devices. In this way, experimentation supports the growth of ideas and strengthens the connection between research, education, and industry.

MULTIDISCIPLINARY VISION - The training offer of UCBM The Academy is multidisciplinary: it includes programs in engineering, management, nutrition and sustainable innovation, cybersecurity, and AI. Specific programs, such as those dedicated to Healthcare, offer pathways for all healthcare professionals, from one-year highly specialized courses to CME modules on targeted skills. The Engineering & High-Tech programs focus on scientific and technological disciplines, including emerging areas such as security. The Nutrition Science Program supports those seeking careers in the health, nutrition, and wellness sectors, while the Management programs develop strategic skills for senior roles in healthcare. Finally, the Innovation & Sustainability Program prepares professionals to respond to key market trends by developing key design and strategic skills.

CONTINUOUS GROWTH - The job market requires up-to-date skills and technological innovation is advancing at a dizzying pace.UCBM Academy and its Simulation Center offer a concrete response to this trend. In the Simulation Center, knowledge is transformed into skills, ideas take shape, and training never ends. Studying in UCBM Academy means preparing to respond effectively to complex challenges and growing personally and professionally.

NOT JUST MEDICINE - TheUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma It not only trains doctors, but also offers a broad and multidisciplinary curriculum: sixteen degree programs divided between three departmental faculties, ranging from Biomedical Engineering to Chemical Engineering for Sustainable Development, from Food Science and Human Nutrition to Food Science and Technology and Food Design, through to courses in Dentistry, Intelligent Systems Engineering, and healthcare professions (Nursing, Physiotherapy, Radiology Techniques). All courses offer comprehensive training for personal and professional growth and contribute to a single goal: enhancing personal well-being. This vision underpins the University's slogan, "Science for Man," a philosophy shared by all research and training activities.UCBM Academy is part of this 360-degree perspective, promoting master's degrees, advanced courses, and CME programs aligned with the most current needs of the job market. One-year master's programs and executive courses enable students to acquire specific skills and foster upskilling and reskilling in emerging sectors, with a focus on digital and sustainable transformation. Collaboration with companies, incubators, and accelerators strengthens the synergy between academia and the manufacturing world, creating concrete opportunities for growth.
