L'Università Campus Bio-Medico di Roma hosted the meeting today "The medical profession in the pharmaceutical company" made after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Ministry of University and Research (MUR), CRUI e AnacThe initiative saw the participation of students, residents, and managers from some of the largest pharmaceutical companies operating in our country, with the aim of illustrating the professional and training opportunities for doctors in the industrial sector. 

Il MOU The initiative aims to promote collaboration between pharmaceutical companies and universities to strengthen the training of highly qualified professionals, enhance the role of physicians in research and development, retain and attract talent, and raise awareness of Italian and international centers of excellence. In this context, today's event represents a first concrete step in achieving these shared goals. 

The proceedings were opened by institutional greetings from Andrea Rossi, General Director and CEO of the University, Carlo Hedgehogs, Deputy Director General of Farmindustria, Vincenzo Di Lazzaro, Dean of the Departmental Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, and of Giorgio Minotti, Professor of Pharmacology and Director of the Master in Clinical Research UCBM Academy  

In his speech, Andrea Rossi pointed out how Choosing to invest your career in the pharmaceutical industry means being at the forefront of healthcare innovation, transforming clinical expertise into concrete solutions for people's health. For a physician, it's the opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary projects, lead the development of new therapies, and contribute to scientific progress, without sacrificing professional growth. It's a choice that combines a passion for medicine, scientific ambition, and a real impact on society, while strengthening Italy's leadership in the sector and the country's competitiveness..  

"The pharmaceutical industry focuses on human capital and invests four billion euros a year in Research and Production", says Carlo Hedgehogs, Deputy Director General of Farmindustria. For Farmindustria, it is therefore a priority to foster the development of the skills needed by businesses, particularly in the medical-scientific sector. Today's meeting with a leading university like Campus Biomedico, organized under the agreement signed by Farmindustria with the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research (MIUR) and the Italian University and Research Council (CRUI), is moving precisely in this direction. This initiative is designed to provide many young doctors, both from our universities and from abroad, with cutting-edge knowledge in a global context where innovation is accelerating and offers numerous job opportunities, including within our companies. 

The morning included an introductory session of Marco Zibellini, Technical-Scientific Directorate of Farmindustria, dedicated to Research, Development and Life Cycle of the drug, followed by a panel discussion Moderated by Minotti and Zibellini with leading doctors from the national and international pharmaceutical industry:

  • Alfonso Gentile, Executive Medical Affairs Director, Incyte Biosciences Italy

  • Domenico Valle, Regulatory Affairs Italy Hub Senior Director, Eli Lilly Italy 

The presentations highlighted how training in clinical research and clinical trials represents a key factor in innovating pharmaceutical industry strategies and interacting effectively with regulatory bodies.

Giorgio Minotti - Offering students and specialists the opportunity to get to know these perspectives first hand means helping them seize new opportunities for professional growth, even on an international scale.

The sixth year students of the Master's Degree Courses in Medicine and Surgery and Medicine and Surgery, together with those of the fourth year of MedTech and the residents of the last two years, were able to interact directly with doctors who have successfully undertaken a career in the pharmaceutical industry, gaining a deeper understanding of the professional opportunities and vocational motivations behind this choice. 

The event confirms the commitment of theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma in creating bridges between academic education, research and industry, in line with the MOU strategy and with the initiatives of Anac aimed at nurturing talent, attracting expertise from abroad, and supporting the development of the Italian pharmaceutical industry. Thanks to this collaboration, students and young doctors can gain direct experience in industrial research and development, with concrete benefits in terms of skilled employment, innovation, and the competitiveness of the country.
