Seminars and lectures at the Universidad Nacional de Honduras

In the context of Erasmus mobility program KA107, prof. Emiliano Schena, President of the Degree Course in Biomedical Engineering and the teacher. Alessio Gizzi, Associate Professor of Construction Science at the Departmental Faculty of Engineering of theUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, have held lectures and seminars on advanced research topics in the field of biomedicine and engineering at the Universidad Nacional de Honduras. In the next months UCBM will host Honduran students and teachers on the Campus for a period of study and teaching.

The professor. Schena has lectured on theuse of wearable systems for measuring physiological parameters and on monitoring of minimally invasive ablation procedures, such as radiofrequency microwaves, lasers and ultrasounds, for the removal of tumors. Case studies relating to active projects at theResearch Unit of Measurements and Biomedical Instrumentation UCBM to also reflect on the enormous impact of these technologies in various fields.

The seminar of prof. Gizzi, on the other hand, introduced the theoretical and computational modeling of the human cornea: study and predict the evolution of pathologies, such as keratoconus, identifying the most significant tissue elements that can be useful for building a structural model of the human cornea. Also, the professor described a computational approach for the study and prediction of bone fractures in patients with metastases. Through biomedical images it is possible to define the properties and predictive risk factors of metastatic lesions.
