Rome, 28 March 2019 - The president of Confindustria Basilicata Pasquale Lorusso presented the initiatives of theUniversità campus Bio-Medico di Roma underway in Matera on the occasion of Matera 2019 European Capital of Culture. The degree course in Food Science and Technology and Supply Chain Management, starting in the 2019-2020 academic year, was in fact presented on 27 March in Matera in the underground spaces of Piazza San Francesco. An initiative that aims to respond to the skills needs of companies, as emerges from a sector study prepared in 2016, and which aims to make the city of Matera and the Lucanian area aware of a proposal capable of training modern professionals capable of fully integrate into the current job market, as explained by the President of the Master's Degree Course in Food and Nutrition Sciences, Laura De Gara. “A couple of years ago we asked ourselves how to make our training courses and the world of work more competitive – he explained De Gara - Thanks to a sector survey, we have identified the strategic areas on which to focus: the agri-food sector is in fact changing, converting its personnel from high school graduates to PhDs, precisely due to the strong tendency towards innovation of these figures. These are companies that intend to grow by enhancing tradition in a modern dimension devoted to the market, not only nationally but also abroad. Our new training path, which will complement the one already active in human nutrition, focused on nutrition as a determinant of health, will develop the themes of food science and technology, also from a bioeconomy/circular economy perspective and will be enriched by economic subjects and engineering”.
He was present at the meeting Paolo Arullani, honorary president of the Campus Bio-Medico University who underlined the importance of the link between university and business and the participation of Ucbm in Confindustria: “In Matera I found a transformed territory, in which people are thinking concretely about the future, a future made up of innovations. Our university also looks to the future with an attentive eye to food science and the environment and it is here that we wanted to present the new didactic offer in science and technology for man and the environment. We are the only Italian university that has been a member of Confindustria since the early years of our existence, because we have always believed in the importance of dialogue with businesses, which means openness to the world, a culture of innovation and professional opportunities for our graduates, in a reciprocal exchange characterized by a formation attentive to humanity. In Matera all of this has been found in a synthesis, in a moment in which knowledge is increasingly called upon to merge into an authentic laboratory, in its territory characterized by natural riches: for water, for oil, for agriculture , for its history as demonstrated by the archeology and the national archaeological museum of Potenza. There are already numerous Lucanian students enrolled at the Campus Bio-Medico university and we are confident that our participation in the "Matera 2019: Open future of Italian companies" can be a stimulus for young people to train and grow in order to make their territory grow also with a return ticket!
