The advantages of making this structure available, however, do not end there. “Through such a realistic simulation,” concludes Alloni, “Kids also learn another fundamental aspect, which we take particular care of at Campus Bio-Medico: respect for the patient as a human being. All without excessive anxiety that risks undermining the relationship of mutual trust during the visit". It is therefore a plus in the University's educational offer, because it allows the student to try his hand at medical practice as soon as possible but without the resulting risks, and it is also a service for the patients of the University Hospital, because they enter contact with young aspiring doctors or nurses who are better prepared from a professional and human point of view.

A plus in the University's training offer and a service for the patients of the University Hospital

28 May 2015 - “Greater safety for the patient, less stress for the student, the possibility of showing scenarios, from the simplest to the most complex and in real time, to several people at the same time. These are just some of the main advantages that a simulation center inside the University offers” – the teacher explains to us Rossana Alloni, Associate Professor of General Surgery ofUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma and Clinical Director of the University Hospital.

Since last year, in fact, the University has begun to purchase, thanks to private donations, an increasing number of mannequins suitable for medical simulation which are used for practise by students and postgraduates of the Departmental Faculty of Medicine, in particular for the Degree Courses in Medicine and Surgery and in Nursing and for students of some Masters. "For this year the students, in groups of ten and under the supervision of tutors, practice for two hours on Mondays and Fridays for ten weeks per semester", continues Professor Alloni. "For them it is an opportunity to experiment, already from the third year of the course, the different techniques of examination and intervention on the patient, such as auscultation of the heart and lungs, male and female catheterization or objective examination of the breast , favoring a effective connection between theoretical notions and clinical activity". Further lessons are also planned in the fifth-sixth year, even with short sessions on some surgical techniques. These are therefore tools that are useful today for student training, but which could also be used in the future during exams, for a more accurate assessment of student preparation.
