Francesca De Tommasi, Postdoctoral Researcher of the Biomedical Measurements and Instrumentation Research Unit ofUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma, Received the Sensors Travel Award 2024 from the magazine Sensors MDPI. Thanks to this recognition, De Tommasi will present the work carried out during his doctoral period at an international conference.

The research project was conducted at "Surgical Robotics Lab" dell 'University of Twente, in the city of Enschede in the Netherlands, under the supervision of prof. Sarthak Misra, Full Professor in the Department of Biomechanical Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. The research represents a innovative sensing solution which uses fiber optic sensors to monitor force and temperature in variable stiffness catheters made with shape memory polymers. "A fundamental experience for my professional growth. I am deeply grateful for the support and opportunities I received. - has ofchiarato Francesca - Today I am excited to continue research in the field of developing technological solutions based on fiber optic sensors for applications in minimally invasive surgery and to be able to further contribute to progress in this sector".
