Giulia Piccoli's story inspired by the words of Blessed Álvaro del Portillo

December 12, 2019 - "This is the key word that you must never forget: service! Through your work […] you are called to serve others with joy”. The words pronounced in 1993 at the opening of the first academic year ofUniversità Campus Bio-Medico di Roma by Blessed Álvaro del Portillo, first successor of Saint Josemaría Escrivá at the helm of Opus Dei and inspirer of the Roman University, resonate in the minds of many professionals who work every day with an authentic spirit of Christian service.

“I offer direct assistance to the patient on a daily basis - says Giulia Piccoli, nurse at the Campus Bio-Medico University Hospital - thanks to those who, in turn, use their professionalism to allow me to do my job in the best possible way, with all the necessary means. It is a virtuous circle because each of us, at whatever level, puts his or her knowledge and know-how at the service of someone else for the 'global good of the person'. And it is precisely when we realize that our knowledge and know-how are not actually ours but are for others that our professionalism is amplified. And this gets to our patients and it needs to get to our students as well. Of course, we can always improve. Let's not forget that."
