Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome is proud to present its full-immersion, residential Bootcamp in Cambridge (UK), bringing you a three-week course in the fields of IoT and Data Science.

What are the aims of the Bootcamp?

  1. To introduce participants to foundations of IoT and to the main tools and methods of data science through lectures, seminars, group work and hands-on tutorials
  2. To provide practical industry experience using real case-studies from our partner businesses through a week-long hackathon leading to an internship
  3. To give core-skills training to develop communication and presentation skills, time and project management skills, collaboration and leadership skills

Programme

IoT and rapid prototyping (Week1)

Topics covered:

  • IoT Platforms: an overview
  • Set up the board, configure and use it
  • Programming on IoT devices
  • Communicating with other devices through pins
  • Connecting to the Internet 
  • Exchanging data
  • Interacting with online services via API
  • Interacting with sensors
  • Interacting with actuators

Data visualisation, machine learning and big data (Week2)

Topics covered:

  • An introduction on Data Analytics - what is machine learning?​
  • Performance estimation and experiment design​
  • Data wrangling ​
  • Exploratory data analysis - descriptive statistics and correlation
  • Linear regression​
  • Logistic regression ​
  • k Nearest Neighbours ​
  • Support Vector Machines​
  • Decision trees         ​
  • Clustering​
  • Feature selection​
  • Time series analysis and forecasting

Hackathon using industry real-life case-studies (Week3)


Core Skills Training: communication and presentation skills, time and project management skills, collaboration and leadership skills (Week 1, 2, 3)

Location

The Bootcamp will be hosted by Hughes Hall College, one of the 31 prestigious Colleges of the University of Cambridge (UK).
The college is centrally located and close to all amenities. 
The Bootcamp will be a residential camp, which means that participants will live and study at Hughes Hall College for the duration of the camp in order to have a full-immersion experience

What is included in the college?

  • Accommodation in private single en-suite rooms in the College for 21 days (arrival 18th August, departure 7th September) 
  • 3 meals a day during the week (Mon-Fri): breakfast, lunch and dinner in the College Main Hall
  • Breakfast during the weekends (Sat-Sun) in the College Main Hall

Eligibility and requirements

Who can participate in our Bootcamp?

  • Students (over 18 years of age)
  • Newly graduates
  • Professionals
  • Early-stage practitioners in IoT and Data Science

Courses are taught entirely in English. While no language certificate is required, participants are expected to have enough command of the language to follow and benefit from the course without causing disruption to the development of the class.
