Research topics

The research unit aims to study the molecular mechanisms of inflammation and its resolution, in physiological and pathological contexts, with particular attention to the signaling of endogenous bioactive lipids, produced by the immune system, which regulate the onset of inflammation and his confinement. In this sense, the laboratory studies the biochemistry and signaling of specialized pro-resolving lipids (SPM), a group of molecules biosynthesized mainly by the innate immune system starting from omega-3 and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, in contexts (neuro ) inflammatory and neurodegenerative (in conditions such as Alzheimer's disease and multiple sclerosis). Our studies are mainly applied to human primary cell models such as macrophages and T lymphocyte subtypes, both human and murine.
